They tend to be heat-absorbent in direct sun, so lighter tones and shaded seating zones matter if you plan to walk barefoot at 2 p.m. in July. Individual pavers can be lifted and reset, which is helpful in Florida’s sandy base where a rain event or root movement occasionally causes a settle.

Shellock-style pavers from Artistic Paver (Steplock, Eurolock, Granitelock) are designed around Florida’s climate. The shell aggregate keeps surface temperatures cooler than dense concrete in comparable sun, and the tumbled top helps with grip when the deck is wet.

Marble pavers (Solto White, Ice Blue, Platinum, Silver Shadow) are a designer-tier upgrade for homeowners who want a bright, resort feel. Light marbles reflect a lot of sun, which usually reads as a cooler-feeling deck than darker cement in the same conditions.

Because it’s a softer natural stone, we recommend it in areas that stay out of heavy grill grease and iron patio-furniture rust. Round out your selection with matching bullnose or drop-face coping so the pool’s edge and the deck read as one material.

All four families are appropriate around a pool, but textures vary. Tumbled and honed finishes generally feel more secure barefoot than polished ones.
